Were you always into holistic veterinary care, and if not, how did you get started?
No, I was not always into holistic care. I was initially a conventionally trained practitioner, prescribing medicine, drugs, and performing surgery. However, after experiencing my own health scare (breast cancer) in 2007, I chose not to undergo conventional treatment of chemo and radiation. This personal journey led me to explore holistic care for my animal patients, and it has been a continuous learning process ever since.
What types of medical conditions do you use holistic medicine for?
I use holistic medicine for all types of medical conditions, as it focuses on identifying the root cause of a problem. For example, if a dog comes in with an ear infection, I strive to find out what's causing the infection rather than just treating it with an ointment or a shot. Holistic medicine often involves examining anatomical factors, dietary sensitivities, or other underlying causes, and then formulating a holistic plan using natural products to help treat the infection.
Can you give one example of an animal that was deemed incurable that rallied back to full health after given natural veterinary care?
One of the most astonishing cases I've encountered in my veterinary career was an eight-year-old cat diagnosed with a small cell GI lymphoma, a very aggressive and difficult type of intestinal lymphoma. The cat was given less than six months to live, and its owners were devastated. I formulated a natural plan for the cat, which could not tolerate chemotherapy. The cat rallied back within a year, gaining weight, playing again, and growing a new hair coat. The cat eventually passed at age 14 due to an unrelated issue, but the owners got six more good years with their beloved pet.
